Cold Steel and the Underground Boneyard

Image
Cold Steel's third adventure, titled Cold Steel and the Underground is at the next stage before publication. I've sent it to Cornerstones for an editorial report. Once any changes are made, it'll then be ready for proof reading and publication. If I'm being wildly optimistic, it'll hopefully be published this year. If I'm being more realistic, early next year. Wir Sind Kalter Stahl

Ich überschlage derzeit We Are Cold Steel ins Deutsche. Vince Fire

Image
Vince Fire is one of Cold Steel's guitarist, playing alongside Andy Stains. He comes from a wealthy Spanish family, but he was always into the music, so his family funded his studies at an expensive London music college. And whether his talent would have got him into Cold Steel or not, that's where he ended up. His privileged past and classical music education is a polar opposite to Andy Stains, although their differences work really well together in the band. Their rivalry brings out the best in each other as Vince tries to out-play Andy, and he does the same. The creative combination is explosive and produces the music that makes Cold Steel famous. But the tension between Vince and Andy is what makes them infamous. Vince usually plays a Gibson SG, customised to his spec of course. He wears designer clothes, has slicked back hair and a soul patch beard, giving him a very un-metal look. His background gives him expensive tastes and an innate snobbery, which often gets him

Andy Stains

Andy Stains is one of Cold Steel's two guitarists. He's a contrast, a foil and sometimes a friend to Vince Fire. They're unbeatable as a team, but they're also individuals. Unlike a lot of metal bands, Cold Steel have had no line up changes, so Andy's been with the band since the beginning. His story is the real rags to riches rock star dream. He grew up on a council estate, left school as soon as he could, and playing guitar was his only ambition. He had no breaks, no help, no support, a polar opposite to Vince Fire in many ways,  which probably causes a lot of their animosity. And although they seem to patch up their differences in We Are Cold Steel, how long that will last, who can say. Andy could be any one of us. He never learned music, at least not sheet music. He's a self taught musician, and the fact that he made it in the world on his own terms, with no help, has made him hostile to most people around him. If he made it, why can't they? Andy&

Jeans with a button fly

Image
I guess when they first came out, button flies had a real advantage over laces, or whatever else they used back then. But then zips came out, and let's face it, they're a lot better than buttons. So why on earth do they keep making jeans with button flies? Because if you're a bloke, fiddling around your nether regions as you try to undo the damn things, and then fiddle around even more as you try to do them back up again, doesn't look normal, elegant, or even legal.  And this is definitely a male issue. A public male issue. A public male toilet issue. We all know it's tricky enough standing at the trough in the gents, observing the unwritten code of not looking at anyone else and definitely not starting a conversation. In and out with zero social contact, them's the rules, and nothing out of the ordinary is allowed or tolerated. Although washing your hands is now a definite must. And actually, it always should have been. But now, if you're wearing

Maxwell Diabolo

Image
Maxwell Diabolo is the singer in Cold Steel, and it's the job he was born to do. Brash, loud, and with a killer smile, he's your typical metal frontman. And his singing's not bad either. Always described as having long black hair and an oversized hook-shaped nose, his slightly piratical appearance is matched by his obsession with the subject, which was almost his, and the band's undoing in  Cold Steel on the Rocks. So far, there isn't too much detail about his origins, but you could easily imagine him coming from Devon, and sprouting a Barbossa-type accent. But when he's onstage, he really comes into his own. It's his natural home, and when he's not shooting himself in the foot, there's no one to match him.  Unfortunately, Maxwell's talent as a singer is only matched by his irresponsibility. He loves the rock star lifestyle, and he also loves that someone else- usually Johnny Faslane- is making the decisions for him. And that kind of imm

Cold Steel and the Underground Boneyard: Update

Image
The third novel in the Cold Steel series is progressing well. The draft is done, it's already had an in depth review by Cornerstones, and now I'm doing a final read-through before sending it back for a light review. Then it'll be proof-read before publishing. I'd really like it to be available by the end of the year, but it may be early 2021 before I can publish. Watch this space, further updates to follow.
